New primary school building | Bauhausplatz Munich

The city of Munich had four primary schools built at the same time at four locations, which were completed in 2017, including the new primary school at the new Bauhausplatz in Munich-Schwabing/Freimann. wulf architekten from Stuttgart is responsible for the design and planning of the four primary schools. The modular structure of the schools is characterised by the “learning house concept”.

The five-stream primary school on the new Bauhausplatz was built in the 12th district of Schwabing-Freimann between Frankfurter Ring and Domagkstraße on the site of the former “Funkkaserne”. It now offers space for school education and all-day care. In addition, a triple gymnasium with outdoor sports facilities and a house for children with nursery and kindergarten groups were also built.

The building volume of the primary school is created by a central area for common use. The learning house modules are docking on both sides, in the western area on three floors and in the eastern area on two floors. The day care centre is located on the ground floor. As a result of the arrangement of the gymnasium, which is lowered by one level in the south-western area of the property with adjoining outdoor sports areas to the east, a generous open space is being created as a schoolyard in the central area south of the school. In the eastern area, the day care centre is directly connected to an open space, which marks the free-space transition to the district park.

As with the other locations, the external appearance of the compact building volume is to appear filigree and transparent – this impression is to be created with the surrounding wooden escape balconies provided with an open vertical rhombus formwork. The school building, day care centre and gymnasium are designed and constructed barrier-free.
